We have been asked by several breeders on which medications are safe for rabbits and health
protocols we use in our rabbitry.  We have compiled a list of health tips and medications
that maybe helpful in your rabbitry:)!
 
 

Terramyacin Eye Ointment-to treat weepy eye, apply meds 2-3 times a day until resolved

Ofloxacin Opthalmic Solution 0.3%-to treat weepy eye (for white rabbits due to non-staining of fur/wool) apply 1-2 drops of meds 2-3 times a day until resolved

Terramyacin powder-antibiotics that are safe for rabbits, 1tsp to 1 gallon of water for 3-5 days (may have changed names to Duramyacin)

 

Mineral oil-for wool/fur block 0.2ml (TB syringe) once daily for 3 days

1.87% Ivomec(horse wormer)-pea size amount orally twice a year treats ear/fur mites,intestinal parasites

Ivomec - 1% Solution for cattle-1/10cc per pound of body weight, orally to treat fur mites, internal parasites, repeat in 10 days

Piperzine liquid-follow directions on the bottle (4 drops per pound orally) twice a year, treats intestinal parasites

LIQUID pyrantil pamoate (Nemex-2)-give the same amount per pound, as is used for dogs. It is very safe:)  for treating intestinal parasites

Revolution-9mg/lb of rabbit, place correct amount of the product between the rabbits shoulder blades, part the fur and squeeze medicine at base of fur on the skin to treat fleas.

Timothy hay-should be given once a week or everyday if molting 

Hydrogen peroxide-spray coat and feet to remove urine stains-USE ONLY ON WHITE RABBITS

CLEAN 'N GROOM-Great Coat cleaner, removes Dirt and Stains from Bunny Rabbit .com

1c Vinegar & 2tbl listerine-spray coat and feet to remove urine stains-can be used on COLORED RABBITS

Bag Balm-used for sore hocks or wounds, apply to affected area 2-3 times daily until resolved 

Hemorrhoid ointment-used for sore hocks, apply to affected foot twice daily until resolved

Bounce Back-1 to 2 tbl per gallon of water for shows OR 1tbl per 1/2c of warm water for diarrhea, not eating or in times of stress 

Probios-pea size amount orally twice daily for diarrhea 

Penicillin G Procaine ointment-to treat vent disease, apply on genitals twice daily for 3-5 days 

Penicillin G Procaine Injectable-to treat vent disease, 0.1ml orally or 0.3ml SQ, repeat in 10days 

OXY-GEN-give 1/4 to 1/2 ounce over the food for 3 days to stimulate older does to have a more abundant litter 

NUTRI-CAL-give a pea size amount orally 2-3 times daily for rabbits that are underweight or to stimulate appetite 

Craisins-to treat urinary tract infections and rabbits prone to hutch burn

Oxytocin injectable-0.1to 0.2ml (TB syringe) IM on the 30th day repeat on the 31st day to induce labor OR dose can be used for stuck kits 

RABBIT-MYCIN-to treat Snuffles, Sinus infections or Colds place 2 drops in each nostril twice a day for 3 days out of 6 

Vet-RX-to treat Upper Respiratory Infections, colds or Snuffles. Place 2 drops in each nostril OR 8 drops per gallon of water until symptoms are resolved

Calf Manna-for under weight rabbits, place 1 tsp over the feed until desired weight is achieved OR for under weight Does while nursing

Sweet PDZ-in Granular form, sprinkle a small amount in the bottom of cage trays to eliminate ammonia odor and absorbs moisture. We also use it for our carriers when we go to shows:)!

Equine Fresh-Pine pellets instead of pine shaving, NO DUST and a little bit goes a long way.  It also cuts down on the ammonia smell:)

Apple cider Vinegar-2 tbl in 1 gallon of water to promote breeding in bucks and does.  Also is a natural pro bios

Pineapple Juice-orally to promote eating
